La Direzione Generale Agricoltura dell’Unione Europea organizza un press tour in Austria dal 14 al 16 Maggio prossimo, sul tema dell’agricoltura nelle aree svantaggiate ed innovazione. Il press tour, in lingua inglese, prevede due giornate full-immersion di lavori e visite sul campo.

09.00 – 10.30 Farm Visit 1 -ADAMAH BioHof – innovative organic farm 2282 Glinzendorf 7 We will visit the farm of Ekkehard Lughofer, which is organic since its beginning in 1997. Adamah BioHof produces root vegetables, leafy vegetables and cereals on 90 ha of land. The farmer has invested in solar energy and sells the products in a “BioFarmshop” (at the farm) and in 14 organic boots in the markets around Vienna. He set up a “BioBox – Webshop” and offers up to 5.500 home deliveries per week in the greater area of Vienna. Ekkehard delivers also fruits and vegetables to schools, which are subsidised up to 50% from the EU.
11.30 – 12:30 Farm visit 2: Göschelbauer’s dairy farm – young farmers
Lengbachl 9, A-3033 Altlengbach
We will meet with Mr and Mrs Göschelbauer (30 and 24 years old) at their farm where they have 50 cows for dairy production, but 120
cattle (Fleckvieh) in total. The farm also includes 100 ha of grassland and 25 ha of forest. They sell their milk to the NOEM cooperative and
deliver around 2000 litres every two days.
13.15 – 14 45 Lunch Gasthof – Restaurant Kalteis Melker Strasse 10, Kirchberg an der Pielach Anton Gonaus – who is a local farmer as well as “Bürgermeister” (mayor) of Kirchberg an der Pielach – will join us for lunch and will be able to tell us more about agriculture in the region.
15.00 – 16.15 Farm visit 3: Kendlers’ dairy farm Tradigistgegend 34, Kirchberg an der Pielach Leopoldine and Josef Kendler took over the farm from their parents in 1987. They renovated the stable between 2008 and 2009. The farm is not organic, but participates in a special environmental program (“ecopoint program”) of the province of Lower Austria. The family has 25 cows (Fleckvieh) and deliver 300 l. of milk every day. They also produce the local Dirndl berries.
16.30 – 18.00 Farm visit 4: Organic cheese producer Rehgrabengegend 8, 3204 Kirchberg an der Pielach The family Taschl started farming in 1989 and has at present 17 dairy cows; they produce their own organic cheese (1200 kg per year) and also produce and sell the local speciality “Dirndl” berry jam. They sell their products through organic shops in the neighbourhood.

09.00 – 10.30 Farm visit 5: Bernadette & Josef Strasser’s farm 3691 Nöchling , Freigericht 11
Bernadette and Josef Strasser have 40 cows that are kept outdoors as much of the year as possible in 56 hectares of land. The cows eat only
grass and stay on the field day and night. The sell their milk to the Freie Milch Austria cooperative and deliver around 600 litres every two
days. The farm also offers around 10 excursions per year for school children, families and other groups explaining agriculture and daily life
at the farm.
11.15 – 13.00 Farm visit 6: Family Riegler Nurscha: hemp production Straß 1, 3243 Sankt Leonhard am Forst
Family Riegler Nurscha are organic farmers since 1996 and were in 2009 also winners of the Austrian Innovation Prize. They are specialised in hemp cultivation and produce various products such as oil, juice, tee etc. They sell their products in an organic shop at the farm but also via their online shop.
